The greatest cities in the history of mankind

London, 1841, 1.9 million inhabitants.

This city became the largest city on the planet in a period called Pax Britannica – the era of total domination of the British Empire by the sea and in international relations.

At that time, Britain was the world’s only superpower. The rapid growth of London was due to the industrial revolution. If in 1841 the population of the city was 1.9 million people, then in 1914 it grew to 7.4 million, but in 1914 this growth was slowed down significantly by World War I.
