Barcza Mercedes Pardo. Gabriel Garcia Marquez met his future wife on the dance floor, when she was only 13 years old, and immediately offered to marry him. She agreed, but first she had to finish school. Their marriage was possible only after 13 years. Mercedes was with Gaby during his work on the novel “One Hundred Years of Solitude”. Eighteen months later the novel was written, but the author didn’t have enough money even then to send it to the editor. Then Mercedes sold the last things she had – a hair dryer, and a mixer. Soon her husband’s book brought huge fees, worldwide recognition and the Nobel Prize.
